If The Walker Falls?

Thank you, Elsi. Yes, something was wrong.

I was traveling and had a terrible accident at the Dallas-Fort Worth airport. I fell, shattered my shoulder, and had emergency surgery. I'm home now, recovering nicely, and trying to get back into the swing of things. My writer's group gave me voice recognition software which is a big help. Having lost the use of my left arm temporarily, I'm always reminded that we take things for granted until they aren't there anymore.

What were so grateful for is that, with Steve flying out on little notice, we have great friends who came over and took care of Tasha. As a very old dog, she has her challenges andRick, Marj, and and Beth stepped in without hesitation.

It's wonderful to be back home and back in the woods. The forester has been hard at work, and yet I don't feel that much is missing. I will have the sunlight this winter in the woods and so have a place to pause and to think and to listen and to pray.

That's not easy for me now. With my left arm immobile, I walk outside with a cane because I fear falling. Surely that's a direct analogy to the Holy Spirit. And the lesson for me is that I too often walk out without that support.

It's raining today, but I'll put on my boots and slog with Tasha in the mud. She likes the rain. It invigorates her. From inside my home, the woods look dreary. It's only through experience that I know that once I get out there, I'll be rewarded with a sense of peace. And yes, the little challenge of dealing with the rain will energize me as well.

A couple weeks back, I was heading for the plane in Dallas on my own steam, and with my own plans in mind. I got stopped... hard... but I wouldn't dare say it was the hand of God. All I know now is that, I need that cane to keep steady.

But maybe that's not a bad thing, if it keeps me from racing away from God.

So sorry about your woundedness. But I know God will meet you there in ways He doesn't in your wholeness.
Praying for a good recovery.

What a cool thought—I've never thought of my cane as analogous to the Holy Spirit! It's a cool cane, with a turtle-shaped handle. I have another with a moose handle, but it's not as well balanced. My turtle cane takes me anywhere; I've put it on a leash (actually, a camera strap tied firmly to the base of the handle) so I don't drop it, since I can't bend to retrieve it easily. The "leash" doesn't seem to fit the analogy. But now I will look forward to my Sunday afternoon at the circus, using my cane, and thinking about a cane as the support of the Spirit!

But I'm terribly sorry you were hurt! What a difficult situation!

Oh my word! I will pray for your complete healing!

Egads, I don't think anything worse could happen to a writier than to lose a typing hand! :-)

I have voice recognition software but with the TV or music on, it doesn't work well, and I can't work in silence *snort*

I wondered why you were silent for so long. I'll be praying, too!

You aren't a lefty, are you? I am, and can only imagine what I would do without my dominant hand.

Did God give you a push or did the enemy trip you up? Whatever the source, He allowed it. I've had times when He's had to stop me in my tracks, too. It's a humbling experience, but I'm better for it. You will be, too.

Thank the Lord for friends who take care of our dogs, kids, etc. when we can't.

We are truly blessed!

Hi Kathryn,

I tracked you down from Bob Sanchez's blog. I'm sorry you're hurt, but the lessons you share have to be learned somehow, I guess. It's never easy, is it? I like your quote about God, writing and the dog. Cute, and understandable. :>)

Hoping for a complete and uneventful recovery for you. I've been enjoying (and challenged by) your dog devotionals!

I think Valerie hit on something. You should publish a book of Dog Devotionals. The dog business is huge these days. You would have a real market, I think. Plus, they are very good -- these analogies of yours.
